Description: Fire gilt brass cased pendant watch made in Nürnberg (Germany) to house an iron and gilt brass stackfreed movement.
Provenance: Patek Philippe Museum, inventory No. S-892
Additional Info:
Starting from 1530 the earliest movements are usually made from iron. Around two decades later, when the first watchmaking guilds were founded in Europe, clockmakers shifted to brass, before eventually moving to a mix of brass and steel to create a better friction rating than two of the same metals (1).
