Additional Info:

Although manufactured in London we would like to present this movement in the section showing the work in Geneva, because of the link to Jean – Jacques Rousseau and also because many English-style watches were made in Geneva as copies of London work. This is one of the very few movements known to us with the signature of Jacques Rousseau. He learned as a lapidary before being sent to London by his father. A grand-son of his, Samuel Rousseau (1763 – 1820) was a British oriental scholar and printer. He compiled the first Arabic-English dictionary and translated and printed the first English language editions of several important Arabic works.

The biggest collection of over twenty watches with movements made by the Rousseau family can be admired in the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.
